Job Description: As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith’s mission by:

  • Performing Civil Engineering work related to Transportation/Highway projects
  • Perform work involving conventional and straightforward plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment
  • Possibly supervising or coordinating the work of draftsmen, technicians and others assisting in specific assignments
  • Learning project management techniques and the CDM Smith management system
  • Managing tasks on large projects or phases of small projects
  • Developing external client interaction and marketing skills

 

Minimum

Qualifications

A successful CDM Smith candidate will have:

  • B.S. or M.S. in engineering.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience since B.S
  • E.I.T. or the ability to obtain it within 18 months
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with necessary computer programs

Bridge Engineer

Candidates must have a B.S. in Civil Engineering with 4-8 years of experience in the production of PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike bridge design plans, specifications and estimates. Responsibilities will include development of structure design; H&H analyses; bridge inspection; and supervision/training of younger structural engineers. Experience with Microstation and PennDOT bridge design software is required. A Professional Engineer’s license, or ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire, is required. Bridge inspection certification is a plus.

Highway Project Engineer

Candidates must have a B.S. in Civil Engineering with 8-10 years of experience in the production of PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike highway plans, specifications and estimates. Responsibilities will include all facets of highway design; final review and seal of PennDOT PS&E packages; supervision/training of younger highway engineers and drafters; monitoring of budgets and schedules; and assistance with SOIs. Experience with Microstation/InRoads and a Professional Engineer’s license is required.

Responsibilities:
We are looking for a Senior Bridge Engineer / Project Manager to join our Valley Forge, PA office! A successful candidate will possess demonstrated experience in the coordination of project execution and control to deliver contract documents within scope, budget and time schedule from initial start-up through final design. The right candidate is expected to have strong technical knowledge in structural engineering design and detailing, as well as have a good understanding of highway, traffic and geotechnical engineering. Desired candidate will be experienced with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation design policies, standards, and specifications and have proven project experience as a lead bridge/structures engineer.

The candidate will serve as a project manager and project engineer for large, multidisciplinary projects. Responsible for monitoring work for compliance with applicable codes, and accepted engineering practices, ensure effective communication and coordination on assigned tasks between all disciplines, provide technical guidance to project members and will serve as a technical liaison with client on project effort.

Position requires strong structural design background, effective time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Responsibility for managing/overseeing scopes, schedules and budgets for projects performed with the bridge group and daily successful operation of all aspects of project delivery including customer interface.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, Masters preferred.
  • PE in PA is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the analysis and design of roadway bridges and related structures. Design experience in railroad bridges beneficial.
  • Must possess strong leadership and communications skills.
  • Well versed in PennDOT design policies, standards and specifications.
  • Experience in assisting writing/development of project proposals and letters of interest.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a structural design engineer on bridge projects.
  • Experience with design and plan development for PennDOT required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Detail-oriented with strong skills in structural analysis, steel design and concrete design as it relates to bridges.
  • Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to bridge design; Geotechnical/Foundations design.
  • Diversified knowledge of technology, materials, equipment, design concepts and construction techniques.
